Phrase Master is a game for learning the most common words in the most common phrases. A lack of vocabulary is the biggest obstacle in getting children to read. The Phrase Master game is an application of the lexical approach for acquiring a core vocabulary.
Every day students can test their understanding of nine new words in four vocabulary levels. Students choose one of five words to complete three common phrases. Just click the 'Play' button to begin.
If you regsiter a username and password with an email address and login, the game will keep track of all your matches and misses. You can also play the gamen as a Guest User and only your score will be recorded.
Your score includes a time bonus and a row bonuses for matching three words correctly in the same topic.
Students can prepare for tomorrow's games. They can see all the word choices in the Phrase Master games and the phrases of those words. Parents and teachers can see the results of all their children or students. They see which words they matched or missed. Teachers can see which words are best and least understood by the class.
All of the words are organized in a topical dictionary called the Word Map. The program provides a fun, visual system to acquire a core vocabulary of 4,000 of the most common English words. Color-coded underlines indicate the parts of speech of words in phrases: ■ Adjective ■ Noun ■ Verb ■ Adverb ■ Preposition. The Word Maps for Books enable students to study the words which are used in them. Students can listen to the books and read the ones which have links to Google Books. If you can visualize a goal, you can achieve it. Phrase Master helps students get ready to read.
